myHomeMatch is a rental platform that helps renters and landlords across Ontario, Canada find their match. We respect your privacy and handle personal information in accordance with Canada's Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA). This policy explains what we collect, why, and the choices you have.
1. Information we collect
Account information you give us: your name, email address, role (renter or owner), and any optional profile details such as a display name or short bio.
Listing information owners provide: property details, photos, location, price, and availability.
Messages you exchange with other members through the platform.
Payments are handled by our payment processor (Stripe). We never see or store your full card or bank numbers, only references to a transaction.
Limited technical information, such as which pages are visited, collected with privacy-respecting, cookieless analytics.
2. How we use your information
To operate the platform: create your account, show listings, connect renters and owners, deliver messages, and process rent payments through Stripe.
To keep the community safe: verify owners, review reports, and prevent fraud or abuse.
To communicate with you about your account and activity. We do not sell your personal information.
3. When we share information
Owners and renters see the profile details and messages needed to communicate about a home.
Service providers that help us operate (such as Stripe for payments, plus our hosting and email providers) process information on our behalf under contract.
We may disclose information where required by law or to protect the safety of our members. Real estate services are provided through a licensed brokerage; see our Terms of Service.
4. How long we keep it
We keep your information for as long as your account is active and as needed to provide the service, resolve disputes, and meet legal obligations. You can ask us to close your account and delete the personal information associated with it.
5. Your rights (PIPEDA)
Under Canada’s Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act, you can ask to access the personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it.
We respond to verified requests within 30 days. To make a request, contact us using the details below.
6. How we protect it
We protect your information with encryption in transit, access controls, and row-level database security that limits each person to only the data they are allowed to see. Payment details are tokenized and handled by Stripe.
No system is perfectly secure. We maintain a breach-response process in line with PIPEDA, including notifying affected individuals and the Office of the Privacy Commissioner where required.
7. Cookies and analytics
We use only the cookies needed to keep you signed in. Our analytics are cookieless and do not track you across other websites, so we do not display a cookie consent banner.
8. Changes and contact
We may update this policy and will post the new version here with a revised date.
For questions or privacy requests, contact us at [contact email pending]. You also have the right to contact the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.
